Cockerill goal and Kupsky shutout earn Giants 1–0 win over Glasgow
Logan Cockerill scored after 89 seconds as Belfast Giants beat Glasgow Clan 1–0, with Jake Kupsky recording his second shutout this season.
Belfast Giants beat Glasgow Clan 1–0 at Braehead Arena on Friday 23 October, with Logan Cockerill scoring after just 89 seconds and Jake Kupsky keeping his second clean sheet of the season. The Motorpoint Elite League win comes ahead of the sides’ next meeting in Belfast on Sunday 25 October.
Kaleb Pearson’s long pass released Cockerill for the only goal. Glasgow goalkeeper Rasmus Tirronen then stopped Belfast extending their lead, denying chances for Mike Lee, Christian Berger, Patrick Guay and David Goodwin, Love Belfast reports.
Kupsky keeps Glasgow out
Glasgow twice struck the goal frame through Brady Risk, while Kupsky stopped Mick Messner, Julius Reini and David Madsen during the opening period.
Belfast could not convert a power play after Ross Armour was penalised for tripping. Conway and Ciaran Long threatened, before Kupsky stopped Cade Neilson on a breakaway and denied Messner at close range.
Conway later found the net after Deven Sideroff gave away possession, but the goal was ruled out for interference with the goaltender. Cole Kodsi and Alex Forbes were then kept out by Kupsky, while JJ Piccinich’s shot hit Tirronen’s shoulder.
Clan had another opportunity when Belfast took a hooking penalty in the third period. Sideroff and Messner could not find an equaliser, and Tirronen denied Pearson a chance to extend the visitors’ advantage.
Glasgow withdrew their goalkeeper for an extra attacker in the closing stages. Steven Seigo and Sideroff sent efforts towards goal, but Adam Keefe’s side held on.
Halloween game next in Belfast
Sunday 25 October’s rematch starts at 5pm and is the Giants’ annual Halloween night. A limited number of tickets remained when the club issued its update.
